1st Team Vs Needham Market U23’s – League Challenge Cup 2nd Round

Well, Wednesday saw the first team at home to Needham Market u23 in the second round of the League Challenge Cup, with us having put a good performance in a few weeks ago to beat Leiston Res in Round one on penalties after a battling 2-2 draw and having recently beaten tonight’s opposition here at the Wellesley 6-1, expectations may have been high amongst the supporters, but we all know about expectations!!!

With two changes to the starting line up from the 1-4 away win at Debenham LCFC at the weekend, George Barnden came in at centre half in place of Reagan Perry to play alongside Brady Philpott and Bradlee McQueen came in for Carter Trenery.

The first half went pass with both teams cancelling each other out in open play and the only real goalmouth action coming from set pieces, and neither team being able to capitalise on these it was a poor first half.

0-0 half time

The second half began as the first had finished, but with Needham showing more intent and it paid off three minutes into the half when Archie Exworth gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot sending Reuben Lane the wrong way. Then we had the usual floury of substitutions for the home team which meant changes of position on the pitch also. Unfortunately tonight it did not bring about the desired effect as the Bloaters went further behind in the 75th minute when Seth Chambers found space on the edge of the box to drill home into the bottom right hand corner, to seal the win and progress to the third round, and the evening to end with another night of frustration for all involved with the home team, with the management team being left with more questions to be answered.

Good luck to Needham in the next round, for Yarmouth its back to the training field and trying to solve the issues on the field.
