Match Report

Harwich & Parkeston 3-2  Great Yarmouth Town – 30/9/23

For the second week running the bloaters faced a 180 mile round trip , this time to face last season’s play-off finalists . With one place and only 3 points separating the 2 sides the game promised to be an entertaining encounter.

The home side started brightly and deservedly took the lead with a well worked move with 7 mins gone finished off by Luke Mayhew

The goal seemed to fire up the bloaters and they soon equalised when George Couzens hit a low shot from the corner of the box into the bottom corner.

The bloaters continued to press and with 37 mins gone  a surging run and cross from Charlie Barber was headed home by Jesse Fenn to give the bloaters the lead

The pivotal moment of the game came 5 minutes later when a bloaters corner was headed down by Sam Adams and converted by Aaron Sanders . For some reason the effort was disallowed much to the bloaters frustration and within 30 seconds from a long ball from the ensuing free kick the home side scored to rub further salt into the wounds

The bloaters could have retaken the lead 5 mins later when Jesse Fenn broke clear in the box only to be brought down by a defender but no penalty was given. As with the disallowed goal things immediately got even worse when a hotly disputed free kick for the visitors was headed home to give the home side a 3-2 half-time lead

The second half was a scrappy affair and despite their efforts the bloaters were unable to break down a resolute home defence who hung on for the win
