Match Report By Martyn Sinclair
Norwich CBS 3 v 1 Gt Yarmouth Town
On Tuesday evening The Bloaters made the short journey to The FDC to face inform Norwich
CBS without the suspended Brady Philpott and Tyler Halliday who was injured but Yarmouth
did welcome back Logan Lonergan to the squad along with newly signing former Bloater
Cameron Barnes who has re-joined after a short spell at Mulbarton. CBS had no fewer than
6 ex Bloaters in their squad along with some high prestige players among their ranks.
The first twenty minutes were even with both sides looking to turn their opposition
defences around, Lane made two decent saves at one end whilst chances for Couzens and
Trenerry were just off target at the other end. CBS started to boss possession and looked
more threatening with Snelling pulling the strings for the home side, Snelling saw a
thunderous drive come back off the post and Lewis saw his effort on Goal ruled out for
offside. Lane made several good saves to keep the score level but in the 35 th minute a
sweeping move saw CBS finally score to make it 1-0 to give them a deserved lead. The
Bloaters then came back into the game more with the midfield of Soares, Cantwell and
Barnes having more of the ball and getting Trenerry, McQueen and Couzens into the game
more but the half time whistle sounded with the score remaining 1 nil to the home side.
The second half started much the same as the first with both sides looking to get forward.
The bloaters back four of Willets, Jacobs, Barnden and Vincent looked solid and gave little
away which helped build a platform to get more players forward. In the 55 th minute Trenerry
stole possession from the CBS midfield and drove through the middle before sliding a pass
to Couzens who took a touch before firing home from 15 yards to level the match 1-1. This
stung CBS into action and they started to look dangerous again as they won several corners
to put the pressure back on the Bloaters. It didn’t take that long for CBS to retake the lead
when Snelling got to the by line and his deflected looping cross dropped to the far post
where it was knocked back across goal for Clarke to score from close range. Although
Yarmouth had spells of possession they didn’t really create any clear cut chances and it
always looked more likely that CBS would be more likely to add to the score line. Lonergan
and Perry both came on as the bloaters were forced into some changes, Perry had a decent
opportunity but couldn’t make more of the free header he was presented with from a
Cantwell corner. Late on CBS broke clear and scored a third as the away side had committed
men forward in search of an equaliser. Final Score Norwich CBS 3 – 1 Gt Yarmouth Town.
The Bloaters had some decent spells in the match but CBS are a very good, strong side who
will surely be challenging for promotion this season and deserved the win on the night.
Yarmouth worked hard and can take some positives from this game despite losing.
